Picking the best AI resume builder is harder than it should be, because most comparisons offer the same thing: a list of names, four adjectives and not one price you can check. This one works the other way round. Below are six AI resume builders with their real plans, the exact limits of their free tier and the one category each of them actually wins.

Every price and limit on this page was checked on each provider's official site on 3 September 2026. Where a figure could not be verified at the source, we say so instead of copying it from another comparison. If you want the selection criteria before the tools themselves, this guide to choosing an AI resume generator covers that ground.

The 6 builders compared at a glance

The table covers the only three things that decide a purchase: what you get for free, what the paid plan costs, and where each tool beats the rest.

The 6 best AI resume builders in 2026

The order reflects how much of the job each tool finishes end to end, not which one we like most. None of them wins everywhere, and where one loses we say so.

1. Kickresume — the most complete if you are going to pay

Kickresume is the roundest option once you accept paying for it: its AI writer runs on GPT-4.1 and comes with 40+ templates, an ATS checker, LinkedIn import and a career map. The free plan is generous at everything except the one feature this list is named after.

That is its honest concession: there is no AI on the free plan. You get 4 templates, 20,000 pre-written phrases, over 1,500 resume examples and unlimited downloads, but the AI Resume Writer and AI Cover Letter Writer only appear once you pay. The annual commitment drops the price to $8 a month ($96 up front), while a single month costs $24.

2. Rezi — the best at diagnosing and fixing the text

Rezi is the tool that tells you best what is wrong with your resume, not just how it looks. Its Rezi Score rates the document across 23 separate metrics and hands back a concrete correction list — a genuine capability Interactive CV has no equivalent for: we give section-level advice, not a broken-down writing score.

On its pricing page, Rezi states that 62% of its users land an interview and claims over 4.5 million accounts since 2019; that is the company's own figure rather than an independent one, and it should be read as such. The free plan gives you 1 resume, 1 AI interview and 3 PDF downloads; Pro costs $29 a month and a $149 lifetime payment exists. If the automated filter is what worries you, this guide on how to pass ATS filters explains what the system actually reads.

3. Interactive CV — the best if you work in Spanish and English

Our own tool wins on one specific front: genuine bilingual work and tailoring to a posting. The interface, the AI analysis and the generated documents all run natively in Spanish and English, and the editor compares your CV against the job description to flag which requirement is missing and write it into the right section.

The free plan includes unlimited application tracking plus 3 compatibility analyses, 3 tailored CVs, 3 interview simulations, 5 cover letters and 2 CV translations; the PRO plan costs $19 a month. What we do not have: neither Rezi's broken-down writing score nor a per-job-title phrase bank like Zety's. You can try it in our AI resume builder without a card.

4. resume.io — the best template catalogue, with small print

resume.io is the most polished on design and the only tool here with dedicated local editions for Spain, Mexico and Chile among other countries, under the cvapp domain. For Spanish-speaking markets that means correct vocabulary and conventions from the first field onwards.

Its small print deserves a warning: the $2.95 trial lasts 7 days and then renews by itself at $29.95 every 4 weeks, which is thirteen charges a year rather than twelve. The alternative is the $49.95 quarterly plan. A free tier does exist, but it limits downloads to TXT — in other words, with no layout at all.

5. CV Maker by Fundación Adecco — the best free Spanish option

This is the surprise of the comparison and the only option with no paid plan behind it. Fundación Adecco's CV Maker is free and asks for no sign-up: you describe your experience in your own words and the AI rewrites it with action verbs and language that recruitment systems can read.

It adds two things no paid tool here matches on its free tier: it translates your CV from Spanish into English even if your level is low, and it meets WCAG 2.2 accessibility standards. In exchange, it does not compare your CV against a specific posting or track applications: it starts and ends at the document.

6. Rezly — for something decent in fifteen minutes

Rezly closes the list as the emergency option. It is free, requires no sign-up and generates an ATS-optimised resume with suggested phrasing as you fill the fields; its interface is available in Spanish.

Transparency is its limit: its site mentions a pricing section but spells out neither plans nor figures, so what sits behind an eventual paywall is unknown. As an urgent first draft it does the job; as the tool you trust your whole search to, the five above give you more.

Which AI resume builder suits your case?

If this is your first CV or you have spent years at the same company, prioritise the one that writes for you: paid Kickresume, or CV Maker if you would rather not spend anything. If you already have a solid CV and apply to several postings a week, what you need is not another template but comparison against the posting — and there Interactive CV and Rezi win.

If you are applying in Spain or Latin America, check that the tool works in Spanish from the ground up rather than translating from English, because CV conventions shift enough between markets to matter. Keep the legal context in mind too: the European Commission classifies CV-sorting software for recruitment as high-risk, with documentation and human-oversight obligations that start applying in December 2027.

Telling a real builder from a template with AI bolted on

Good signs

  • It lets you edit the generated text word by word
  • It shows the full price before asking for your card
  • It exports a PDF with selectable text, not an image
  • It works in Spanish natively, not translated from English
  • It compares your CV against a real posting, not in the abstract

Warning signs

  • You only find the price when you hit Download
  • The cheap trial renews itself at full rate
  • The text reads identically for any role
  • It only exports to TXT or with a watermark
  • It never says what it does with your personal data

Is an AI resume builder worth paying for?

It depends on how many applications you plan to send. For a one-off CV, the free options here are enough and leave no watermark. For an active search running months, the saving disappears: you end up needing to tailor the document to every posting, and that is where almost every free tier falls short.

What an AI resume builder really costs
2 of 6Tools that are free with no paid plan behind them
$8-29Monthly range of the paid ones, by commitment length
$29.95What the $2.95 resume.io trial renews to every 4 weeks
Prices checked on each provider's official site on 3 September 2026.

The other factor is commitment. Kickresume drops from $24 to $8 a month only if you pay a full year up front, and resume.io hides its real rate behind a $2.95 trial. Before subscribing, work out the total outlay for the period rather than the monthly figure in the ad.

And if the answer is that you do not intend to pay anything, look first at the options to create an AI resume free with no signup, which fall outside this comparison because there is no paid plan behind them.

How we compared them (and what was left out)

Every price and every limit on this page comes from the provider's own site, consulted on 3 September 2026. No figure was copied from other comparisons, because they contradict each other often and go stale without warning.

By that same rule, three well-known tools were left out of the table: Zety, Teal and Enhancv. Their pricing pages returned no verifiable data on the day of checking, so we preferred an absence to an unchecked number. It is worth knowing that Zety keeps a per-job-title phrase bank — you search a role and add ready-written bullet points with one click — which is its most substantial feature and one none of the six above replicates. If you end up using any of them, review these typical mistakes in an AI-generated CV before sending anything.

The next step, whichever you pick

In short: pay for Kickresume if you want the AI to write, use Rezi if you want it to correct you, choose CV Maker if you would rather not spend, and stay with Interactive CV if you work in two languages or apply to many postings. No tool replaces your concrete achievements; all of them help you order them.

Whatever you choose, the real test is not the design but the distance between your CV and the posting you are applying to. You can measure it right now with our CV-to-job-description match analysis and see which requirement is missing before you hit send.

Frequently asked questions

What is the best free AI resume builder?

Fundación Adecco's CV Maker, because it is the only tool in this comparison with no paid plan behind it: free, no sign-up, in Spanish and with English translation included. Rezly is the alternative if you prefer a more modern interface.

Can recruiters tell a CV was written with AI?

They spot generic text, which is not the same thing. Empty phrasing along the lines of «I led a transformative initiative» gives the tool away instantly; concrete achievements with figures and context do not. Use AI to order and rewrite, never to invent content.

Does an AI-written CV pass ATS filters?

It passes if the file is a PDF with selectable text, uses standard headings and repeats the posting's own terms. No tool guarantees it on its own: the filter looks for matches against the job description, not writing quality.

Is it safe to upload my personal data to these tools?

It depends on the provider. Before signing up, check whether the privacy policy says your data trains models and whether you can delete the account. No-sign-up options such as CV Maker or Rezly reduce that exposure by design.

Do these builders produce a European CV format?

None of the six generates the Europass format. For that there is the European Union's official Europass CV creator, free and available in 31 languages, which lets you create, store and share the document from your profile.

Is Rezi's lifetime payment worth it?

It pays off if you expect more than five months of active searching: $149 once against $29 a month. If your search will last weeks, the free plan of 1 resume and 3 downloads covers the essentials.
